How the page works
- One section at a time. The sidebar lists Appearance, Brand, Sign-in, Screens, Menu & toolbar, Speed, Comments and Tools, each with a short summary of how it’s set, like “Dark · Amber” or “2 of 3 on”.
- Search. Press / or use the search box. It finds settings by name and by everyday words: “logo” finds Icon, “url” finds Login address. Enter opens the section and highlights the setting.
- The save bar. It appears with your first change and says how many changes are waiting and where. Discard them, or choose Save changes (⌘S or Ctrl+S). The page asks before you leave with changes that aren’t saved.
- On phones, you start from a list of all settings and open one section at a time. The save bar sits at the bottom of the screen.
Arrange menu, the login address and Clean up comments work on their own and don’t wait for the save bar.
Appearance
How the admin looks for everyone on this site. People can still switch dark or light for themselves from the top bar.
| Preview | A small admin that shows the mode, accent and density as you change them. Saved changes reach everyone on their next screen. |
| Default mode | Dark, Light or System. New people start here; System follows each person’s device. |
| Accent colour | Buttons, links, focus rings and the active menu item. Seven colours, or your own. Text on the accent switches between white and dark so it stays readable. |
| Density | Comfortable or Compact. Compact tightens rows in tables, menus and cards. |
Match your site
On a site with an Elementor kit, Match your site takes the place of Accent colour. It reads the kit’s global colours, shows how each works as the accent, and suggests a deeper shade when white text on it wouldn’t be readable.
Brand
The site’s name and icon, in the top bar, the browser tab and on the sign-in page.
| Name | The Site Title from Site Identity, or a different name for the admin only. |
| Icon | The site icon from Site Identity, with an optional copy for dark mode. Plinth checks each against its bar and offers a white tile or a light version when an icon would disappear. |
| Show in the top bar | Whether the icon sits in the top bar. The sign-in page follows the same choice. |
| Headings font | Shown when the site’s Elementor kit uses a headings font other than Inter. Pick the kit’s font or keep Plinth’s. |
On a site with an Elementor kit, a preview at the top shows both modes, the sign-in page and the browser tab.
Sign-in
The page people use to sign in: how it looks, and where it lives. Branded login has more.
| Design | Plinth’s sign-in page, with your icon, accent and translations on sign-in, lost password and log-out. Or WordPress’s own grey sign-in page. |
| Brand background | Tints the sign-in background with your accent colour, in dark and light. Needs Plinth’s sign-in page. |
| Login address | Off until you turn it on. Moves the sign-in page to an address you choose. Move the login address. |
Screens
Which parts of WordPress Plinth redesigns.
| Dashboard overview | Stats, page views, site health and drafts instead of WordPress’s default widgets. |
| Classic Editor | Turns off the block editor for every post type. |
| Plugin notice tray | Plugin messages go into one tray under the page title. Their own settings pages keep them inline. |
| Muted plugins | Announcements from these plugins are hidden for you. Warnings and errors still show. |
Menu & toolbar
The admin sidebar, and the bar signed-in editors see on the site.
| Admin menu | Arrange menu opens the menu editor: drag items into order, choose what Administrators and Editors see, and give plugin pages a calmer home. Plinth suggests homes for security, backup and activity-log plugins. Plugin pages are moved, never removed, and the editor saves on its own. |
| Toolbar on the site | The Plinth bar (your icon, New, Edit and your account), a floating pill in a corner that leaves the page uncovered, or WordPress’s own black toolbar. |
Speed
How moving between screens feels.
| Instant navigation | On by default. Screens open without the blank flash of a full reload, and every screen still works as a normal page if something can’t load this way. |
| Load the next screen while you point at a link | Clicks feel instant. Links that change something, like delete, trash or log out, are never loaded early. |
| Keep the sidebar and top bar still | Only the page content changes, with a quick fade. Off if you’ve asked your device to reduce motion. |
| Update lists, filters and tabs in place | Searching, filtering, sorting and paging Posts, Pages, Media, Comments, Users and Plugins without a reload. It turns itself off on slow connections and when Data Saver is on. |
| Always load normally | Screens that run their own apps load the classic way: the block editor, the Elementor editor, the Customizer, the Site Editor and WooCommerce Home. Add any plugin screen that misbehaves. |
Comments
Turn comments off for the whole site, not just hide the menu.
| Comments | On, Hidden in the admin, or Off. Hiding only tidies the admin; Off stops comments on the site too. |
| Turn off on | Each content type that supports comments. Leave Products unticked to keep WooCommerce reviews. |
| Existing comments | Hide them on the site (they come back if you turn comments on again), or keep showing them, closed to new ones. |
| Clean up | Empty spam and trash, or delete every comment after typing the number to confirm. It runs straight away, and deleting can’t be undone. |
Tools
Start over, or set up another site the same way.
| Reset to defaults | Every setting goes back to how Plinth ships. |
| Export settings | Downloads plinth-settings.json to set up another site the same way. It leaves out the admin name, the icon, the login address and the menu arrangement. |
| Import settings | Drop or choose a file exported from another site. Plinth lists every change it would make, and nothing is saved until you choose Save changes. |
| About | The version on this site, and What’s new, which opens the release notes right here. |
Licence
Once the Plinth store is open, Licence appears above Tools: your plan, and updates and support for this site. Plinth works with or without a key. Your licence key explains it.
