Tested on WordPress 7.1.2
Built for the plugins on real client sites.
Plinth is tested against the plugins that turn up most on client sites. Everything else gets a readability guard that fixes unreadable text in dark mode.
Tested plugins
What’s covered, and how.
| Plugin | Tested with | How Plinth handles it | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| WooCommerce | 11.1.2 | Matched styles Light island | Orders, products and settings in Plinth’s colours. WooCommerce Home stays light. |
| Elementor | 4.3.3 | Matched styles Light island | The editor’s Insert Media window is restyled. The editor and site builder stay light. |
| Advanced Custom Fields | 6.8.10 · PRO | Matched styles | Field groups and options pages read in dark and light. |
| Yoast SEO | 28.6 | Matched styles Light island | Yoast’s own screens and its post meta box stay light. Its score columns leave the post lists. |
| WPForms Lite | 2.0.2.1 | Matched styles | Form screens in Plinth’s colours, titles lined up with the WPForms header. |
| Every other plugin | — | Readability guard | Panels with their own light background keep it, and text that would be unreadable is fixed. |
Matched styles are regenerated when a supported plugin changes its own.
How it works
Three layers, from most careful to most general.
01
Matched styles
Generated from each supported plugin’s own stylesheet. Only colours change; the plugin keeps its layout and behaviour.
02
Light islands
App-like screens stay light inside a dark admin, with Plinth’s top bar and sidebar around them.
03
Readability guard
On any other screen in dark mode, light panels get the light palette and text under 2.5:1 contrast is fixed.
Page builders
Out of the way while you build.
Plinth’s front-end bar hides itself inside builder previews, so layouts measure exactly as visitors see them.

What Plinth changes
Tidying other plugins, out in the open.
Plinth moves plugin clutter rather than deleting it. Here is all of it, with the filter a developer can use to change each one.
| What | What Plinth does | Filter |
|---|---|---|
| Plugin items in the top bar | Moved into the “…” menu | plinth_admin_bar_keep |
| Plugin menus in the sidebar | Grouped under Plugins | Arrange menu in Settings → Plinth |
| Extra columns in post, page and user lists | Left out | plinth_posts_columns · plinth_pages_columns · plinth_users_columns |
| Plugin notices | Collected in the notice tray | Notice tray in Settings → Plinth |
| Plugin screens that stay light | Shown as light islands | plinth_light_screens |
| Matched plugin styles | Loaded after the plugin’s own | plinth_compat_enabled · plinth_compat_sheets |
| Readability guard | Runs in dark mode | plinth_ink_guard |
Plugin not on the list?
Tell us which plugin your clients use and we’ll test it. Until then, the readability guard fixes text that would be unreadable.
