Your licence key

A licence key turns on updates and support for the sites your plan covers. Plinth itself works the same with or without one.

Staging and local copies are free: they don’t use one of your plan’s sites.

In this article

Licence appears in Settings → Plinth, above Tools, once the Plinth store is open.

Add your key

  1. Go to Settings → Plinth → Licence.
  2. Paste the key into Licence key and choose Activate. It’s in your receipt email and in your Plinth account.
  3. Plinth checks the key with your Plinth account. It takes a few seconds.

What the key covers

  • Updates to Plinth, offered on the Plugins screen and in Dashboard › Updates like any other plugin’s.
  • Support for the sites on your plan.
  • Each live site you activate uses one of your plan’s sites. Staging and local copies are free.

Without a key, or when it ends

Plinth keeps working exactly as it is. Updates and support pause until you add a key or renew, and Dashboard › Updates shows a Plinth update that’s waiting, with a button to add your key or renew.

Moving or removing a site

  • Remove this site in Licence frees its place on your key. Plinth keeps working there, but the site stops getting updates and support. You can add the key again at any time.
  • If a site’s address changes, updates wait until you confirm in Licence whether it’s the same site, a copy or a new site.
