Install Plinth

Plinth installs like any other WordPress plugin. You’ll need an administrator account on the site and the plinth zip file from your receipt.

Try it on a staging copy first if you like. Deactivate Plinth and the admin is stock WordPress again.

Before you start

  • WordPress 6.6 or newer, and PHP 7.4 or newer.
  • The zip from your receipt, named like plinth-1.0.zip. Don’t unzip it.
  • Your licence key, from the same receipt.

Upload and activate

  1. In the admin, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and choose Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose the Plinth zip, then Install Now.
  3. When it’s installed, choose Activate Plugin. The admin switches to Plinth straight away.

Add your licence key

  1. Go to Settings → Plinth → Licence.
  2. Paste the key from your receipt email into Licence key and choose Activate.
  3. Plinth checks the key with your Plinth account. It takes a few seconds.

The key turns on updates and support for the sites your plan covers. Plinth keeps working without it. Activating uses one of your plan’s sites; staging and local copies are free. More about your licence key
